The year was 2003. I'd recently become a Chartered Accountant but still didn't know what I wanted to do with my life so I decided to pack my bags and go looking for it. What started as a 12 month round the world working holiday morphed into a 7 year adventure spanning 35 countries and 6 cameras.
The last 4 years of the adventure was based in London which is where I got serious about photography. To that point I'd always loved taking photos on my point and shoot, but when I was introduced to an SLR and the create opportunities that were now available there was no turning back. I was all in.
In 2007 I started shooting weddings in the fast paced, ultra competitive London market. My second ever wedding was a 750 guest Muslim Bengali extravaganza unlike anything I've seen since, and the experience gained over the next few years of shooting incredibly diverse and multicultural weddings was ideal training for my return to Australia.
Since my return in late 2009 the adventure hasn't stopped. I may not be flying off to Europe every long weekend but the thrill of building a successful business is just as addictive (and I have still managed a few trips to Borneo and 6 weeks in Africa to keep the travel bug at bay). As a full time photographer I know that my success relies entirely on a reputation which is formed not only by making great photos but by exceptional customer service. My accounting background has taught me to be reliable, trustworthy and organised and when I combine this with the creativity and joy of photography I think I've finally found what I want to do with my life.
